Sarah Mahmood is an associate in the Political Law practice group. She advises clients on campaign finance, election, and nonprofit tax law at the federal, state, and local levels.
Sarah advises federal and nonfederal campaigns, including Presidential and U.S. Senate campaigns, political party committees, and political action committees (PACs). Sarah also serves as outside general counsel to 501(c)(3) charitable organizations, 501(c)(4) social welfare organizations, and 501(c)(6) membership organizations. She works with groups advocating for progressive causes both in the U.S. and internationally, including racial justice, reproductive rights, and climate change, and advises them on a range of issues including entity formation, corporate governance and operations, and grantmaking. She helps her clients achieve their strategic objectives in compliance with the Internal Revenue Code and Treasury regulations, and federal, state, and local campaign finance, election, lobbying, and ethics law. She has represented clients before the Internal Revenue Service and the Federal Election Commission and in federal and state agencies on campaign finance and tax issues.
Sarah is a graduate of Wellesley College and Stanford Law School. She is based out of the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.
