Tazewell County Judge Rejects Republican Request for Emergency Injunction
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Yesterday, Virginia Republicans filed a lawsuit and an emergency motion for a temporary restraining order in the Circuit Court of Tazewell County challenging the ability of the Virginia legislature to counteract Republican redistricting efforts around the country via a special session. If granted, the emergency motion would have obstructed the legislature from passing redistricting legislation during the special legislative session. Elias Law Group represents Democratic legislative leadership seeking to intervene as defendants in the Republican lawsuit.
This morning, the Court rejected the Republicans’ emergency motion.
Following is a statement attributable to Elias Law Group partner Aria Branch:
“We are pleased the Court rejected the Republicans’ unprecedented effort to obstruct the democratic process through this emergency motion.”
