Elias Law Group Attorneys Defeat Kari Lake’s Election Contest

On December 24, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Peter Thompson dismissed an election contest from failed Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, who lost to Governor-Elect Katie Hobbs by more than 17,000 votes last month.

Judge Thompson’s decision followed a two-day trial during which Elias Law Group attorneys, representing Governor-Elect Hobbs, proved that Lake’s election contest was frivolous.

“We know now that [Kari Lake’s] story was a work of fiction,” Elias Law Group Partner Abha Khanna told Judge Thompson during her closing statement. “Kari Lake lost this election. The reason she lost is not because of a printer error, not because of missing paperwork, not because the election was rigged against her, and certainly not for lack of a full opportunity to prove her claims in a court of law. Kari Lake lost the election because, at the end of the day, she received fewer votes than Katie Hobbs. Katie Hobbs is the next Governor, the people of Arizona said so."

“Kari Lake’s election denialism and debunked conspiracy theories will never change the simple fact that Arizonans chose Katie Hobbs to be their next Governor,” said Elias Law Group Partner Jon Berkon. “Lake’s spurious election contest was never anything more than a desperate attempt to undermine democracy and overturn the will of the voters. Now that the case has been rightfully dismissed, Governor-Elect Hobbs can devote her full attention to fighting for Arizona families as she prepares to take office next year.”

Elias Law Group attorneys Abha Khanna, Jon Berkon, Lali Madduri, Courtney Weisman, Christina Ford, Emma Anspach, Elena Rodriguez Armenta, Alison Ge, Daniel Cohen, and Max Schechter contributed to this case.
