Uzoma Nkwonta, a partner in Elias Law Group, specializes in handling complex election law and voting rights litigation matters.

Uzoma has significant experience litigating pre- and post-election disputes involving state and federal election laws, constitutional challenges to restrictive voting measures, and First Amendment speech and associational rights on behalf of Democratic party committees, campaigns, candidates, and voters in trial and appellate courts around the country. Often proceeding on accelerated timelines, Uzoma has obtained successful results for clients in high-stakes litigation over election administration and recounts, including in the aftermath of the 2020 election where he represented the Democratic Party in defending against the Trump campaign’s attempts to overturn the presidential election results. Uzoma has also secured victory on behalf of progressive organizations across the nation seeking to protect the right to vote and eliminate barriers to the political process.

Before joining Elias Law Group, Uzoma represented the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) in Federal Election Commission proceedings and federal district and appellate court litigation over CPD’s sponsorship of presidential debates and candidate selection criteria. He has also worked with civil rights organizations on litigation and advocacy to increase access to the franchise and combat voter suppression.

Prior to entering private practice, Uzoma started his legal career as a law clerk to the Honorable Ann Claire Williams of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
