Elias Law Group Statement on Selection of Remedial Plan in Alabama

WASHINGTON, D.C. - On Thursday, Elias Law Group partner Abha Khanna, Counsel of Record for the Caster plaintiffs who successfully challenged Alabama’s congressional maps before the U.S. Supreme Court, released the following statement after a panel of three federal judges selected a new 2024 congressional map drawn by a court-appointed special master.

"At last, we know without a doubt that Alabama voters will have a fair and lawful congressional map for the 2024 election. The court’s adoption of a remedial plan is a historic moment for Alabama—for the first time Black voters in the state will have the opportunity to elect their candidates of choice in two congressional districts. While Alabama’s outright defiance of a Supreme Court order led to frustrating delays, we are thrilled that Alabama voters have finally secured the relief they are entitled to under the Voting Rights Act. At the end of the day, the facts and the law were clear, and voters came out on top," said Elias Law Group partner Abha Khanna.
