Aaron Mukerjee is an Associate in Elias Law Group’s Political Law practice. He advises clients on a variety of topics, including voter registration, voter protection, ballot curing, recounts, and election certification.

In 2023, Aaron served as Voter Protection Director for the Democratic Party of Virginia, pioneering a new model of voter protection and helping Democrats maintain their majority in the State Senate and retake the House of Delegates. In that role, he successfully worked to push back against illegal voter purges, wrongful closures of early voting locations, and the elimination of Sunday voting.

Prior to that, Aaron litigated a variety of cases related to election administration, voter suppression, and redistricting. Before joining Elias Law Group, Aaron worked as a summer associate and part-time law clerk in the Political Law Group at Perkins Coie, including during the 2020 election and post-election.

Aaron regularly speaks and writes about voting rights and democracy, most recently in the Richmond Times-Dispatch. He has been quoted in the New York Times, Washington Post, The Guardian, Associated Press, Virginia Public Media, and the Virginia Mercury. He has also conducted several on-camera interviews with local television stations in the Washington, D.C. and Virginia markets.

Aaron is a graduate of Harvard Law School, where he earned his J.D. and served as Notes Co-Chair on the Harvard Law Review. He previously earned his B.A. from Harvard College, where he graduated magna cum laude with highest honors in Social Studies. He is based out of Elias Law Group’s Washington, D.C. office.
